Experiencing nature with no obstacles & barriers

It is hugely important to Grossglockner Hochalpenstrassen AG - the operating company for the Nockalm Road and other panoramic roads in Austria – to ensure that all their offers and facilities, whether it is on site along the Nockalm Road, or online, have as few barriers as possible, so everyone gets to experience the natural surroundings independently.

Barrier-free facilities along the Nockalm Road

The Nockalm Road is very well suited as an excursion destination for people who have restricted mobility, providing experiences for EVERYONE. After all, almost all the viewing points, parking areas and rest points are accessible in a vehicle, enabling barrier-free contact with nature. We have provided an overview here with information about which exhibits, restaurants and facilities are barrier-free:

Barrier-free accessible exhibits
  • Nockalmhof Biosphere Reserve Center: All areas of the building as well as the fossil exhibition ‘Fossilised Worlds’, the interactive bat exhibition, the multimedia and 3D cinema, along with the extensive restaurant options available provide barrier-free accessibility.
  • ‘Silva Magica’ path & the ‘Trees as Survivalists’ exhibition: Silva Magica Nature Park and the ‘Trees as Survivalists’ exhibitions have been adapted in such a way that people who have disabilities, families with prams and elderly, frail people can enjoy unrestricted access to special natural experiences. Language codes on display boards along the route provide visually impaired people to enjoy an acoustic experience of the path. Everything is ÖZIV certified.
